The non-profit corporation Irving-The Main Place was formed February 2012. Although we have been serving the community for several years, there was no plan of action to develop into what we have become. I just tell people what we do, and they want to help. We have never solicited funds. The building is supplied by a developer; store fixtures were donated by Stein Mart – Las Colinas, Stein Mart – Hurst, Nordstrom’s – Galleria; furniture was donated by The City of IrvingComerica Bank and individuals; the utilities were paid first by the city, next by individuals, then by La Buena Vida Foundation up until March 7, 2012; new carpet and VCT was provided and installed by PDL Design; new ceiling tile was provided and installed by Drywall Interiors; wall prep & finishes, including 25 gallons of paint, were provided by Lone Star Paint; the new clothing is provided by Dignity U Wear; the shipping expenses are paid through budgeted funds of Irving Women’s Network; the pre-owned clothing is donated by a myriad of organizations and individuals.

We did have a “shower” for the physical building last May 2011, requesting donations of office, bathroom/kitchen, and cleaning supplies. So far, when we lacked something needed for operations, one of the Irving Women’s Network volunteers has provided it. In other words, we have operated with no money. As a 501(c)3, we can actually ask for funds and buy clothing items that are not available from Dignity U Wear.

The main volunteer base is and continues to be the Homeless Teens Committee which is comprised of members of Irving Women’s Network (IWN) a 501(C)6 professional networking organization. The new clothing which we receive is a result of a triad partnership with IWN, Stein Mart-Las Colinas and Dignity U Wear, a national charity based in Jacksonville, FL. IWN is a Partner In Education with Project PASS – a program assisting students in Irving ISD who are homeless. The Optimist Club of Irving has adopted The Main Place as their project, as has the Life Group of Urban Hills Church.
